Move to Pittsburgh

In August we moved to Pittsburgh because Claire accepted a position as director of the Language Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh. During our househunting trip, Marc found a job at a company called American Outpost, where he is an MIS specialist.

We bought a house near campus in a very pleasant neighborhood called Squirrel Hill.

Here is a view of Melvin Street. We live a short walk from the Murray Avenue shopping area and Kazansky's, Marc's favorite deli.

If you click on Kazanky's map, you can see the location of Melvin Street.
This is a photo of our house, which is about 70 years old. There are six similar houses in a row on Melvin Street. Rumor has it that the first residents were bootleggers, whose customers used the driveway to enter through a side entrance that leads to the basement.

Other renovations have included a new roof, wiring, plumbing, and carpeting.

The house was rather dilapidated when we bought it. Here is the old front door. It could be opened with a hefty kick. The new front door (below) is a big improvement!

(We're gradually making other improvements as time permits.)

Here's Marc in the family room, our favorite part of the house:
