Mission Statement:
The department provides students with the required language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) as well as an intensive grounding in English literature for the purpose of preparing them to be English language teachers in the future.
Curriculum Philosophy:
Courses are administered according to a skills and content- based approach.
A communicative teaching method is adopted throughout the courses to develop the students’ cognitive abilities and their awareness of the target language culture.
Teacher Roles:
Assume an instructor role at early stages.
Act as facilitators, moderators and guides in different tasks.
Promote students’ abilities for self- study.
Provide an authentic medium for language and literature learning.
Student Roles:
Act as participants in discussions, projects, presentations.
Become active learners, not just passive recipients of knowledge.
Develop analytical skills of their own work, of their colleagues’, and of their teachers’.
