Mission statement:
The mission of the English Departments mission is threefold: (1) to equip students with the necessary language skills, (2) to help them gain cultural awareness (3) to help them develop their analytical skills.
Curriculum philosophy:
Students should:
- Know how to communicate in correct English by being exposed to original texts and having the opportunity to express themselves orally and in writing.
- Focus on how form is used to express content, especially with reference to literary texts.
- Compare and contrast between other cultures and their own and come up with their own conclusions.
Teachers Roles:
- Act as facilitators for the learning process.
- Provide scope for communication and self-expression.
- Introducing students to the idea of self-assessment.
Students Roles:
- To fully participate in class discussions.
- Work on developing their language skills and their analytical faculties.
- Work independently
